"The Beach in Summer"
It just doesn't get any better than this. Warm sandy beaches, cool clear fresh water. No deadly creatures to eat you while you swim. No crowds, few bugs, clear skies and fresh air. Can there be a better place on earth?
There are a few things to note in this picture. The line of debris at the high water mark is wood bits that have washed down from all the rivers that feed the Columbia. That means you can stay here after dark and have a nice campfire to stay warm while you ponder the stars in the sky. You can also see the wing dam near the North end of the island. That's about a half mile away. You can also see my beach anchor holding the Stingray fifty or so feet from the shore. It's my own invention. And finally you can see a car carrier (on the left) coming up the river to disgorge it's load of Toyotas at one of the local terminals. One float in an endless parade of ships from all over the world. Can you believe that we are less than a half hour from downtown Portland?
